Glossy Ibis / Morito común
Maximum size: 60 cm
They live in marshlands, marshes, shallow lagoons, paddy-fields, salty-water
lagoons in the centre and the south of Andalusia. They can sporadically
be seen in most of the salty-water wetlands in the south.
In Spain they breed in the east, as well as in Doñana where
they concentrate in great numbers of more than 2,000 individuals, in the
hollows in the Centro José A. Valverde and in the Rocio marsh. They
remain in Doñana all through the year.
They are included in the Red List of the Vertebrates of Andalusia and
of Spain, and their conservation status is ‘in Danger of Extinction’. They
are not threatened of extinction in their habitat of origin, Africa.
