Eurasian Oystercatcher / Ostrero común
Maximum size: 45 cm
They live on the coast not too far from the sea-shore, in stony areas
as well as in sandy areas, estuaries, marshes or rivers.
They nest in Galicia, Asturias and the Delta del Ebro (Cataluña).
They winter in the coast in Andalusia, particularly in the Atlantic, and
in Galicia. They feed on mollusks and crustaceans, consequently the shell-fishing
industry, as well as the changes in the hydrologic framework, are having
very negative consequences for their progress.
They can be seen throughout the year on the beaches in Andalusia.
They are included in the Red List of the threatened species in Spain.
