Cirl Bunting / Escribano soteño
Maximum size: 16.5 cm
This specie prefers living in areas with nearby Mediterranean woods
and water sources, although they can be seen in many different habitats
provided there are trees around. They can even be seen in or near human
settlements. In winter they invade croplands.
They are scattered over the whole of the Iberian Peninsula, although
they are more frequent in the north. They feed on insects and seeds.
Their numbers increase in winter due to the migratory individuals.
They are included in the List of Threatened Species.
