They live in wetlands, ponds, pools, lagoons and deltas.
They are customary in semi-salty lagoons in the south and the centre
of Spain, as well as the ones near the shore in the Mediterranean coast.
They winter in the Iberian Peninsula, and they are also migratory birds
or in transit. They feed on fish, crustaceans, insects, etc.
Distribution: Eurasia and Africa.
